Servathon
Each year during our month-long Servathon event, the youth in MWKF perform various community service projects as a thank you to the community. Servathon is a return of service on behalf of the many donors and volunteers who serve us each year. Past projects include cleaning up the park and neighborhood, making Valentine’s Day cards for the elderly, reading with day care students, conducting tennis clinics for disabled youth, making get well cards for the guests of Ronald McDonald House and Random Acts of Kindness for SuperBowl visitors.
Scholarship Awards Ceremony
Each May, MWKF holds a scholarship awards ceremony to award many of our young people scholarships for secondary education once they graduate from high school. Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence and improvement on and off the court. Youth can begin to earn scholarships as early as 4th grade. Annual scholarships include: The George M. Sopher Player of the Year Award, The Rick Murray “Don’t Quit” Award, Extra Effort Scholarships, Take Stock in Children Scholarships and the Debi Andreassen Memorial Scholarship (through the Jax Golf Slice for Life Tournament). In addition, the President’s Award is awarded only by the discretion of Founder, MaliVai Washington to a young person who has shown exceptional dedication to their studies, their tennis and MWKF. To be eligible for the President’s Award, the candidate must be in high school and have previously won the Player of the Year Award and been a member of MWKF’s programs for at least five years.
