Youth Tennis & Education Complex

With the tremendous success and growth of the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation’s Tennis and Tutoring (TnT) after-school program, MWKF is raising funds to build Jacksonville’s only Youth Tennis and Education Complex. The complex will be located in Durkeeville at the corner of Sixth and Payne Streets, across the street from its current home in the Emmett Reed Community Center.

Need for the Complex: Our TnT program is the only free comprehensive after-school program available to children in Jacksonville’s poverty-ridden Durkeeville neighborhood. We have offered hope to the neighborhood’s children, but because of our success the program has outgrown the 2,200 square-foot space we currently lease from the city-run Emmett Reed Center.

The Youth Tennis & Education Complex will allow for:

  • Growth of our elementary program
  • Addition of a teen program
  • Expansion of our mentor program
  • Enhanced life skills offerings
  • More frequent tennis instruction
  • Addition of on-site tournaments, play days, clinics & other community outreach events.

About the Education Center:

  • Approximately 9,200-square-foot academic and enrichment building
  • Four classrooms for homework completion
  • Multi-media room for a state-of-the-art computer lab, library, audiovisual area and mentor area
  • Multi-purpose room for snack time, family gatherings and assembly programs
  • Kitchen, teen area, fitness room and locker rooms

About the Outdoor Facilities:

  • Nine tennis courts
  • Basketball court
  • Outdoor play area

Scheduled Completion: Spring 2008
