Jacksonville, Fla. - January 23, 2006 - The holiday season may have come and gone but Jacksonville will be filled once again with the spirit of giving when the Malivai Washington Kids Foundation (MWKF) hosts its annual Servathon. The event, which began on Martin Luther King Day and will continue through President’s Day, will provide the children of the Foundation an opportunity to give back to the city of Jacksonville. These and a variety of other projects are all ways that MWKF youth show there appreciation to the many donors, volunteers and surrounding community who support the Foundation each year. “Getting the kids involved in service projects throughout the community provides them with a sense of pride in knowing that they can give back to the people that have given them so much,” said MWKF Founder and President MaliVai Washington. “We are very proud of our kids for taking on a project like this each year.” Former professional tennis player MaliVai Washington established MWKF in 1997 to introduce tennis to at-risk youth as a tool to develop positive life skills and encourage academic success. MWKF runs a comprehensive after-school program five days a week in Jacksonville’s Durkeeville neighborhood that has introduced tennis into the lives of more than 14,000 local children.
