News Releases FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NBC Dateline’s Chris Hansen & Fred Funk Headline Celebrities for Jacksonville, Fla. (August 22, 2006)—For the past nine years, celebrities and patrons have come together for the annual Mercedes-Benz/MaliVai Washington Golf and Tennis Gala. The Gala is the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation’s (MWKF) largest fundraiser. This year’s event marks the 10th Anniversary of the Gala and the celebration of MWKF’s first decade providing services to Jacksonville’s youth. The two-day event consists of a Tennis Pro-Am on Monday, September 11th at Deerwood Country Club and a Golf Pro-Am the following morning at Marsh Landing Country Club. The Gala Dinner and Auction will take place Monday night, September 11th at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort and Spa. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for a cocktail reception and silent auction prior to the dinner. Last year’s event raised $140,000 and pre-sales this year predict even greater success. All proceeds from the Gala support the services and programs of the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation across the First Coast. Celebrities joining host MaliVai Washington include Dateline NBC’s Chris Hansen, Fred Funk, Todd Martin, Donovin Darius, Tom Gullikson, Kevin Hardy, Brian Gottfried, Xavier Malisse, Kim Alexis and Tony Brackens. These along with several other actors and former Olympians in all currently make-up more than 30 celebrities who are scheduled to participate. Auction items are still being submitted, but those confirmed include seven-day a trip to the Mercedes Golf Championships in Hawaii, with first-class airfare and lodging at the Ritz Carlton; a three-night stay at Badrutt's Palace in St. Mortiz, Switzerland; tickets to the President’s Box at the US Open, as well as in-town getaways to local resorts. Other items include local dining packages, professional tennis lessons, golf outings and various services, products, and celebrity memorabilia. Tickets for the event are on sale and going quickly.
